Gun Control By living a life in America, we can all have all the rights included in the Constitution. One of them was the Second Amendment which provides the right to bear arms, the purpose was to protect us from danger but nowadays many people take advantage of it and use it in the wrong way. I believe our government should impose a strict limit on gun ownership. Gun control has been a phenomenal problem in our country. In December 15, 1791 the Second Amendment established among the first ten amendments of the Constitution by James Madison. The amendment stated that people have the right to bear arms to protect themselves, their loved ones and their property. To legally obtain a gun you must be 21 years old or older, with no criminal record or committed to any mental institution, then you must apply for it and pass a gun safety test. After the whole process you can easily buy a firearm. The purpose of the amendment was self-defense, but now people take advantage of it and use it for violence. Over the years there have been so many times where people have used it to kill and hurt others instead of protecting them. They used firearms for the wrong purpose and this affected many other people. I believe our government needs to have strict laws and more requirements to own a firearm. It's true that our current laws prevent some people from getting a firearm, but they haven't completely stopped them from having access to a firearm and using it to do something terrible. In 2011, due to the record, the United States recorded 12,664 homicides and 8,583 were caused by firearms, which means 68% out of 100. Firearms are one of the fastest and most dangerous weapons around. If our government doesn't act soon, it will be... half the paper... and it will also help "law enforcement not use weapons against them" (www.theverge.com). But opponents add that even with this invention it would not change anything about the percentage of violent weapons in the United States. Gun control is a serious debate that needs to be put to an end. It's too obvious that those firearms and amendments are no longer what they stood for. There are already too many accidents happening, not just a few. If this massacre of 20 innocent children doesn't change the terms of the debate over firearms regulation, then I don't know what will. Are we waiting for something even more horrible to happen before we act? It's no longer about protecting an individual, it's about everyone in this country and everyone around us.
