Topic > Analysis of the film Stanger in Good Company directed...

The name of the film I selected was "Stranger in Good Company". This film was directed by Cynthia Scott and was released on May 3, 1991 (www.imdb.com). This film is 105 minutes long and the audience for this film is mostly adults. I chose this film because it is a moving, slow-paced reflection on life, the strong human spirit, and the meaning of true friendship when it occurs between strangers. In addition to that, this movie shows us true unity, love and individuality. This film is related to aging because almost all the actors are elderly and really bring their life memories into the film. This film shows us the sociological imagination, the life course and the diachronic vision that most older people have. This film has eight characters, six older women and their bus ride and a middle-aged woman named Michelle. The fact that the cast is not made up of actors makes it even more surprising. I love each and every one of these women in the film. Everyone has their own personality that comes through beautifully in the film. Their story began when all the actresses travel together in the countryside of Quebec, Canada. Suddenly their bus breaks down and leaves six elderly women, Michelle and their driver in the woods of an isolated countryside. They find an abandoned house in the woods and to survive they feast on wild raspberries, frogs' legs and fish. Besides that, they share their past experiences to kill time and survive in the woods. Before all the women meet, they talk little about each individual character and their past lives. Basically in the group, one woman is a lesbian, another a nun, another a stroke survivor. When they found the abandoned collage that offers no services like anything b...... middle of paper...... unfortunately. In short, I LOVED this movie and other students will too! In conclusion, I liked this movie because it showed women from very different backgrounds coming together, accepting each other, and becoming close friends during a time of crisis. In the reality of today's society, I have seen that women are jealous of each other instead of working together. This film shows the joy of overcoming differences and forming bonds with different women. In very simple terms, the director reminds us of the only book of life that each of us has. The other message is that the elderly are separated from society, due to their limitations and their age. The older women in this film show us and other older people how to blossom again and live again. In this film they share with us their lives, their stories and the lessons of the past to change our typical mentality towards older people.
