The first poem I chose is called 'Commuting'. This is a discovery poem (Anderson 2006 p.249) that began based on the suggested prompt of "about a crowded place" on the TMA 03 evaluation page. I chose the station and the train because it always bothers me to see how the people push and shove to get on the train without regard for others. As I wrote the poem I found that it naturally picked up the sound of the train, the dactylic meter, dum da da (Anderson 2006 p.239) which helped to set up the topic when reading aloud. I had to move the words around and change some endings, like changing jostle and jog to jostle and jog so the rhythm would flow better. The line pattern then became a syllabic form of 5454. The first three lines were fairly easy to compose, with a series of internally rhyming alliterative words giving the impression of swinging motion. I thought about leaving the poem with three stanzas, but after leaving it for a while, I went back and found that it didn't feel finished, so after many revisions I added the fourth
