The topic of free will and determinism is a very complex topic. Some might say we have free will because we have control; we have the ability to make our own choices. Others might say that it is in our biological nature to do the things we do; it is out of our control. Basically our life experiences and choices are already predetermined and there is nothing we can do to change them. Many philosophers have made very strong arguments in support of both sides. In life we constantly ask ourselves why people behave a certain way. A determinist would say that freedom of choice is not always possible because our actions are determined by things far beyond our control. This view is known as the most extreme form of determinism; hard determinism. A convinced determinist would believe that free will does not exist, it is an illusion, everything is determined. Everything happens because of the physical laws that govern the universe. Whether or not we succeed in living well in life is far beyond our control. It may seem like we have a choice, but in reality we don't. We shouldn't blame or praise people if it wasn't their choice. We are helpless and blind from start to finish. We have no moral responsibility. Some causes advanced by determinism are human nature; meaning that people are born with basic instincts that influence how they act. Another is environmental influence, which simply means that people are shaped by their environment conditioned by their experience to be the kind of people they are. Furthermore, social dynamics, that is, social creatures that are influenced by the social force around them, and psychological forces, that is, people, are governed by psychological forces. Compatibilism, also known as soft determinism, is the idea that we all… middle of paper… who we become so, therefore, have freedom. Jean Grimshaw was a feminist philosopher. Jean Grimshaw along with other feminists believed that repressive forces came from a male-dominated society. She believes manipulation has forced women to believe they are inferior to men. Feminist authors have written books about how women influence the way men think. Grimshaw believes there is an authentic feminine spirit at the core of every woman. Women can discover their essence by freeing themselves from social and psychological oppression. Grimshaw states that many of our decisions are not even our own but rather suggested to ourselves and we tend to tell ourselves that we are the ones making that decision. I agree with the liberation view that everyone should have the right to live their own life. in no way do they choose as long as they respect the rights of others.
