All these policies have essentially set the parameters for the growth of trade unionism; the protection of workers' rights; the resolution of industrial disputes, etc. After 2002, no labor policy was introduced, although numerous developments occurred. Pakistan has more than 70 labor related laws, we will discuss only a few of them in this report and compare them with similar ones in India. In Pakistan, workers are defined into four categories. "Permanent workers" means workers who carry out work lasting more than nine months and who have satisfactorily passed a probationary period, "fixed-term workers" means those who have been hired for a job essentially temporary in nature and capable of being terminated within a period not exceeding nine months. There is also the concept known as “badli”, which describes a worker appointed in place of a temporarily absent permanent or probationary worker. Finally, "probationary" means workers hired provisionally to fill a permanent vacancy and who do not have... half of the documentation...
