For starters, there are countless reasons why they are considered similar. Both Atticus and Gandhi dealt with their problems nonviolently. Both showed maturity and self-control. Although things tended to get frenetic and out of control, Mahatma and Atticus chose to be stern and fight with the pen, rather than the sword. Furthermore, both men were acclaimed to be very intelligent and cunning. Every man has made wise progress when he has sought to benefit himself or those around him. The African-American community supported Atticus, while Gandhi was supported by his followers and citizens willing to rebel against the government. While these men are remarkably similar, they differ in some areas. For example, both men display courage for different reasons.
