“Being well informed about rights and the different ways in which these rights can be used when one becomes disabled or dependent on others for support and care will not only give power to older people, but it will also be a way of providing protection at all levels." (Auckland, service provider focus group). This is a great way to empower seniors and show that they have a support system that will help them through these difficult and challenging times. Informants agree that one way to protect the elderly from abuse is educational services for the general public and believe that it will be a step towards ensuring independence for the elderly.
