Topic > Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development - 839

Vygotsky had a profound impact on developmental psychology. One of his major contributions was the idea of the zone of proximal development. It places emphasis on the training of cognitive development. It is one of the first in child development to emphasize cultural context. I chose his theory and what it entails for this article because it is very interesting and some parts of his theory such as scaffolding and proximal zone development were connectable to my experience in the field. This theorist believed that our minds, cognition, and psychological abilities could be developed with mental tools as our physical tools expand our physical capabilities. This concept is called “tools of the mind”. This is something that can be useful to all educators, tutors and parents. They can reassure young people that they shouldn't limit themselves and be all that they can be to the best of their ability. When “tools of the mind” are applied to children, especially at an early age, it can increase their chances of being able to function effectively in school and in the world. They need to acquire a set of tools, well “mental tools” and conquer them. As a service student, I believe this is partly why we are listed on these sites. We should help students and do our best to encourage them to use their mental tools to progress. Some of these students don't know they have the tools that can enable them to solve problems. This “tools of the mind” concept states that until children discover and learn their mental tools, the environment controls their learning. When they master their mental tools, they will be in control of their learning. In addition to converting cognitive behavior, mental tools transform emotions and… middle of the paper… interview. They could say what they liked about the student who interviewed, perhaps how they spoke or how they greeted the mock interviewers or what they would have done better. We were kind of educating them. The more they prepare for something, the greater their chances of success. I believe scaffolding can help children in so many ways. Even with that less use with mock interviews, I'm sure they will feel more comfortable and less afraid going forward, for some of them in their first interviews. To put it briefly, I love many development theorists, but Vygotsky's theory really spoke to me. It can be applied in the classroom as well as in after-school programs, even at home with parents. The theory is practical for children up to adolescence and can help any educator, counselor, psychologist etc. to help our young people.
