Texting is a multiple model: it is a written language that includes the basics of spoken language. Texting is a quick and easy way to communicate with friends and families around the world. In 1900 only a few messages were sent via SMS, since then the use of text messaging has increased rapidly. Texting has urbanized into a whole new language where there are multiple ways to express thoughts and feelings, this new form of communication has become so illustrious that some educators fear this could affect the use of spoken and written English. In this essay I will talk about the different varieties of text messages used and how these affect a person's attitude towards the English language. In addition to exploring attitudes, I will focus on the different techniques used in text messaging. When analyzing the different types of text messages many different characteristics emerged and became clear. For example, different gender and age groups tend to text differently. Text 1 is a conversation between two teenagers. From text 1, you can see that these two teenagers use slang and that they shorten their words when texting, perhaps because it is an easier and faster way of communicating and also saves time and money. As you can see in text 1, compressed language is used; this is where you shorten words by substituting individual letters to represent the actual word, for example r for are and c for see. Or using homophone letters and numbers like “cu l8r” which stands for see you later cu (see you) represents a homophone letter and “18r/later indicates a homophone number. Furthermore, in text 1, the conversation begins with a...... middle of paper... this also negatively represents an individual's intelligence, so it should be stopped. In general, people say that texting has a positive effect on the English language, while others think that it has a negative effect on written English. However, I think that texting is neither destroying nor imputing the development of the English language. On the one hand, texting is a faster and easier way to communicate with each other. On the other hand, the inconvenience of texting is believed to be the cause of missing spelling errors and incorrect English. This new technology is used all over the world; people of different ages and genders use it for different reasons. For example, teenagers use texting for fun and excitement, while adults use it for different reasons, such as work, texting their children to convey an important message..
