Topic > Radical Feminism on Lana Del Rey - 1421

“The conduct and manners of women, indeed, evidently prove that their minds are not in a sound state; for, like flowers planted in too rich soil, strength and usefulness are sacrificed to beauty; and the gorgeous leaves, having pleased a discerning eye, wither, neglected on the stem, long before the season in which they should have come to maturity” (Wollstonecraft 7). This is a view that many feminists hold to and can identify with; the idea that women have the wrong intentions and goals for their lives, that they are treated like children and are predestined to act like children, rather than adults. Although Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman was written in 1972, this perception of women still exists throughout the world and is a major topic of debate among feminists. Different aspects of life in modern Western society degrade and belittle women, and although equality is the law in countries like Canada and the United States of America, TV shows, films and music tell different things. Lana Del Rey is a popular artist in North America and Europe, she recently released a new album called Born to Die. This album is very controversial among radical feminists because many aspects of it, such as the lyrics, contribute to the belittlement of women. Radical feminism stems from second wave feminism, it was created due to the failure of social and liberal feminism to forcefully address women's position in society (Heywood 242). This form of feminism began to predominate in the 1960s and 1970s and, unlike other forms of feminism, seeks to strip away patriarchy and look at how it influences women in politics, economics and, above all, life social (Heywood 242). In rad...... half of the article ......for women anyway. In conclusion, radical feminists are trying to overcome patriarchy in the family structure, which will ultimately lead to changing the way women are perceived. and treated, they will then be treated as true equals. Gender roles assigned not only to women, but also to men must disappear because it is possible that men and women have the same characteristics and skills. With the abolition of patriarchy, women's sexual roles, of which the male is the dominant character, will also disappear. This cannot happen if artists like Lana Del Rey continue to produce music and videos that make women seem so weak and vulnerable and music that encourages the sexual and social dominance of males over females. The album Born to die, as well as many other music albums and videos, is a step back in the journey that radical feminists are undertaking..
