While this may have been true, there had been many more diplomatic alternatives that would have led to the same resolution. Many alternatives were discussed at the interim committee and they were much more peaceful. These alternatives included continued bombing and airstrikes, which would end the war six months later, allowing Japan to keep its emperor during a surrender, and even waiting for the entry of the Soviet Union (3). Each of these options would have resulted in fewer civilian casualties, as all of the above would have been used to force surrender. Therefore, nuclear weapons were not the only, nor the best way to end the war. In a war without rules, it would have been entirely ethical to take extreme measures. However, the Geneva Convention later proved that it was unethical to attack enemy civilians. Even in previous conventions it had proven to be illegal and immoral. In the case of Hague IV the congress had demonstrated and ratified that it was wrong to attack citizens or defenseless people (2). This was not the only treaty or convention, as there had been many others previously. Therefore it was hypocritical and unscrupulous for the United States to drop atomic bombs on America
