Healthcare organizations are required to comply with federal requirements to ensure the safety of equipment and patients. There are many programs responsible for providing health and safety guidelines in the healthcare industry. Manufacturers' recommendations are not sufficient to ensure the safety of patients and equipment in the healthcare sector. There are now many health programs that must be managed by an agency to ensure they achieve the expected medical outcomes. CMS is the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The purpose of the CMS is to administer several health care programs such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CMS play an important role in the healthcare industry for the administration of healthcare programs. CMS provides administration that helps deliver a more effective healthcare system that leads to high-quality care and better outcomes at lower costs. Additionally, CMS works with states to establish insurance marketplaces and regulate private health care plans. CMS has the power to issue reminders and mandates based on incomplete information because it is an agency responsible for many different health programs safety guidelines. According to Keith Jesse, the Joint Commission allowed departments to create their own roles and PM decisions for equipment. There was a conflict with CMS, which recommends using manufacturer guidelines and procedures when performing PM. On December 2, 2011, a ''Clarification on the maintenance of hospital equipment...... half of the document...... safety in the healthcare environment was adopted so that it continues to follow the roles and guidelines and update them frequently .In conclusion, CMS is a vital agency in the healthcare industry and has helped to improve healthcare programs effectively. The expansion will lead to the growth of healthcare innovation and the creation of affordable insurance markets. Additionally, CMS is an agency that focuses on patient and equipment safety over frequent maintenance costs. Many may disagree with the CMS directive for some medical devices because it consumes time and resources for unnecessary maintenance, but CMS recommends that at least there be frequent maintenance for each piece of medical equipment. CMS has expertise in the effective administration of healthcare programs and continues its efforts to improve patient and medical equipment safety in the healthcare industry.
