Evaluation of a journal articleI. IntroductionThe essay aims to evaluate the magazine written by Coen Heijes and express my personal interpretation of the article. The essay was divided into five sections. First I would like to briefly outline the topic of the article and introduce the conclusions made by the author. Second, I would analyze the theory and literature review by evaluating the main theoretical framework. The research design and methods will then be discussed, followed by the results and conclusions provided by the author. Finally, personal implications would be provided. In my opinion, taking power dynamics into consideration while analyzing cross-cultural perception is a useful supplement to the dimensional approach that is limited in international management research. Despite the lack of empirical research on the relationships between intercultural perception and power asymmetry in organizations, this article could represent a significant reference for further research.II. Description of the article under evaluation In this article, the author conducted research on cross-cultural perception and power dynamics in changing organizational and national contexts in Curacao and the Netherlands. The essay is divided into seven parts. First, the author pointed out that more and more researchers believe that when analyzing national cultures we must go beyond Hofstede's standard cultural dimensions because culture is not so much a fixed, cohesive and systematic concept but more dynamic and co-created. Therefore, the author delved into the interactions between culture and power and discussed the role of power and power differences in cross-cultural perception. Second, methodological triangulation was used in the paper's focus in the IRS and police ice organizations in the Netherlands and Curaçao. The research findings represent only a reflection within public service organizations and cannot indicate that similar conclusions would be drawn in business organizations. Furthermore, the study lacks some empirical data on the relationship between cross-cultural perception and power asymmetry in organizations. Furthermore, this study paper made me think of another case of UK and HONG KONG, as the impact on cross-cultural perception would be more complex not only considering the power dynamics and power imbalance due to the context of the system Western society based on Chinese culture. Overall, I benefited from studying the influence of power dynamics on cross-cultural perception and it would be a good learning example for me to carry out research in the future.
