Topic > Earning a Bachelor's Degree in Information Management - 1018

-What does information management mean to you and how would obtaining a master's degree in information management fit into your future plans? After finishing my bachelor's degree in computer engineering from Mumbai University, I joined Vistaar, a pricing solutions company which has powerful analytics tool and transaction engine as its core products, as a software engineer. While working on client projects, I learned that companies are willing to pay a lot of money to replace their existing pricing systems with what Vistaar offers just because we can capture and represent important information in meaningful ways. This trapped my curiosity, and after delving into real customer scenarios, I realized that these companies do not have adequate tools or mechanisms to acquire information, or have no idea what to do with it. Throughout my university studies, I always tried to come up with a version of the program myself before checking predefined solutions and this helped me think outside the box. As a result, I was given over 7 different projects at Vistaar, which further improved my thinking and problem-solving skills. Learning new things and solving real-life problems has always been my forte, and there is a deeper pool of problems to solve in the information management field. Therefore, working as an information architect who can solve data problems and derive more value from it by leveraging technical and business knowledge has become my career goal. I now view the MSIM program at the University of Washington as a critical step toward achieving my goals.-Why and how did you choose the MSIM program at the University of Washington Information School and how do you view the prog...... half of paper... only coordinated well with him by working late to facilitate proper communication, but also developed the artifacts in question with the highest quality and diligence that met the client's needs. Vistaar's product development team receives requirements from our senior vice president, who works from the US office. I also worked on this team for a long time, which meant I had to hold WebEx sessions with him during night hours in India to get requirements, do product demos, provide status updates, ask for comments, etc. In addition to working with people in different time zones, I have worked with people with different understandings, backgrounds and skills on teams. I adapted well in all these teams and followed the pace of my work according to the capabilities of its members. In this way, I learned about teamwork and group dynamics, which I am sure will be of great use at iSchool.
