The advantages and disadvantages of genetic manipulation: transgenic animals IntroductionIn recent years, technology has been in constant development; has developed to the point where it is possible to manipulate genes; used primarily for the benefit of both ourselves and society. Genetic manipulation, also commonly known as genetic engineering or genetic modification, according to the dictionary, is defined as “the scientific alteration of the structure of genetic material in a living organism to produce specific results in an organism.” Biotechnology, defined as "the use of microorganisms to carry out specific industrial production processes", is one of the most common uses of genetic manipulations. This essay will describe the advantages and disadvantages of one of the categories of biotechnology, genetic manipulation of animals, transgenic animals. How Transgenic Animals Are Made Two of the most common methods for producing transgenic animals are the embryonic stem cell method and the Pronucleus method. Both methods are shown in diagram 1. The embryonic stem cell method, as shown in diagram one, is method 1 in which stem cells are selected to form gametocytes and implanted into the adoptive mother's uterus. While the Pronucleus method, as shown in diagram 1, method 2 occurs when the desired DNA is fused with the male Pronucleus and created into a new DNA. It is then implanted into the adoptive mother's uterus. In both methods, the adoptive mother, after a few weeks, will give birth to the offspring, creating a new individual with the desired gene. Advantages Transgenic animals have numerous advantages and in recent years have brought benefits to our society both economically and medically . The most beneficial… middle of the card… to the point that the damage would soon disappear and it will continue to help solve and develop more cures for diseases. Conclusion As animals may soon become extinct and will disappear from this world rapidly due to the technology that we humans have developed and continue to develop. With the use of transgenic animals, we will no longer be burdened by the exclusive use of technology to live our lives. Even the lower classes of society where they are poor will be able to earn money simply by using transgenic animals. Even if there are consequences such as putting the original gene or organism at risk of extinction, we can solve this problem by simply taking better care of the animals used or breeding the original gene more. Therefore, transgenic animals, regardless of the consequences and disadvantages, will bring us and have brought us more benefit than harm.
