Violence has been a negative factor in society throughout history. Many researchers believe that the use of violent media, especially video games, plays a huge role in the downward trend of young people's behavior and attitudes, and that this behavior continues to spiral out of control. However, other researchers believe that because violence has occurred since the beginning of time, teenagers today are just as capable of violence as they were a thousand years ago. Research has been found to link violent and maladaptive behavior to the use of video games, but other researchers believe that the result is inconsistent with the findings, as the results are often biased. Meta-analyses have statistically shown that violent video games have a negative effect on youth behavior, but due to the combination of meta-analyses, the results tend to be skewed and the results communicate a more forceful outcome. Television, computers and movies are another source of media violence available in adolescence. They can be as harmful if not more harmful than video games, especially if the user already has a tendency towards violence and/or grew up in an atmosphere that fosters violence and other risk factors are also present. Violence will continue to be a major part of our society. However, with newer and improved technology, we may eventually develop advanced research that may prove, beyond all reason, to be to blame for our tendencies towards violence and the real motivations for violent behavior. early violence, physical and mental abuse, are easy to access... middle of paper... times, they can all be catalysts for youth violence, but little research has shown that it is the sole cause. Violence has always been part of our history. With the increase in technology we have we now see and hear more violence than ever before, but it has always been there. The meta-analysis has left the research findings skewed, due to the fact that the research is combined and comparisons may be irrelevant to the research, the “studies of studies”. Young people who are already at risk of crime are more likely to express the violence they witness in the media than children who have their feet on the ground. Violence will always be part of society. However, with increased technology and better research, we may be able to more precisely pinpoint its origin and guide our young people in a different, more positive direction..
