Throughout history, and even today, people have had their own positions on certain topics, in the first half of the 19th century a delusional topic was that of slavery. Along with the arrival of the first Africans in America came the controversy of whether it was right to use and abuse others just because of the color of their skin. The period of opposition to slavery can be divided into two periods, a period of antislavery movements before 1830 and a period of abolitionist movements from 1830 until the end of the Civil War. Despite the efforts of many in the antislavery period, the movement did not have as great an impact as that of the abolitionist movement. The antislavery movement in the long run only contributed to the elimination of most slavery in the North, where slaves were not even really needed, and the colonization of some Southern slaves in other areas outside the country, while the abolitionist movement led to a war that led to the freeing of millions of slaves, a truly revolutionary event in American history. The antislavery period is easily classified as no big deal, rather just by calm and kind people who expressed disapproval of the practice and did not engage in much activity to do anything about the situation. In the North they pleaded their case, arguing that slavery was an inhumane atrocity and should be banned. The North, not relying as much on slave drudgery due to the reliance on skilled labor over force-required labor, agreed with them and removed most of the slave force in the North. However, the South remained unmoved by Northern movements towards a more racially equal society. A “solution” in...... middle of paper ...... to changes in the economy, because now there was no cheap labor in the South, so farming became less profitable, which led to greater industrial movements towards the north. Although efforts were made in antislavery movements before 1830, they lacked the drive and intensity to transform Americans' views and change the nation. Although they freed some slaves both through the idea of colonization, implemented by the American Colonization Society, and through simple persuasion, it was not enough to compete with the millions of slaves who were given freedom through winning the Civil War and l he establishment of the 13th Amendment through the courageous efforts of abolitionists. The post-1830 abolitionists are the fathers of equality (when it comes to race) and have truly left their mark on US history unlike the pre-antislavery activists.-1830.
