The damage of ethyl alcohol abuse to the renal system. Alcohol abuse can lead to various dysfunctions in the body. In this essay I will focus on the effects on the kidneys that excessive alcohol consumption can cause. Throughout the essay I will identify and discuss the different effects that alcohol abuse can cause on the kidney system. In this essay I will identify the different changes that can occur at different levels. Ethanol can influence the regulation of various electrolytes, hormones and the concentration of substances that must be reabsorbed or secreted. Alcohol can also cause changes in the anatomy of the kidneys and change the shape of the various nephron tubules. Furthermore, the control of blood acidity and the regulation of other fundamental substances are influenced which, together with the other factors listed above, will be discussed in this article. Kidneys are a bean-shaped organ of the human body and have several functions and are of vital importance to it. The kidneys are the pair of organs capable of regulating the reabsorption of ions such as potassium, sodium and calcium, which are fundamental substances for the cell. Furthermore, they are involved in the reabsorption of nutrients into the blood and can regulate blood acidity. In addition to regulating fluids and ions, the kidneys are also responsible for regulating numerous hormones involved in homeostasis and metabolism. Due to their importance in regulating substances in the body, when the kidneys stop functioning properly the entire body is affected, creating an imbalance in the maintenance of homeostasis...... middle of paper......restore neutrality by producing more alkaline urine, leading to an increased workload (Epstein, 1997). This increased workload can lead to various kidney dysfunctions or collapse. In conclusion, from what was reported previously in the essay, it can be noted that within the body, one of the systems most damaged by alcohol abuse is the renal system. The damage this substance creates is truly crucial as it interferes with the maintenance of homeostasis. As can be clearly seen throughout the essay, alcohol affects the kidneys on both macroscopic and microscopic levels, leading to many different health problems in the alcoholic. Furthermore, it can be noted that microscopic problems are usually linked to macroscopic changes that occur in the tubules and glomerulus of the kidneys (nephron region).
