Temptations are one of the most compelling trials or enticements we face on a daily basis. It also makes us want something we don't necessarily need or causes us to sin. Furthermore, if we give in to temptation, we may be blessed, but it will only be ephemeral. It is because of the “fall of man” that sin is second nature to us, which in turn makes it easy to give in to temptation. In other words, as the verbal expression says “we are born in sin and live in it”. As a result, our temptations can make or break us. The Bible states in Romans 7:19 that "What good I will I do not; but what evil I will not, I do" (King James Version). Strictly speaking, even if we aspire to do good, due to our sinful nature, it becomes a struggle. However, it is for this reason, because of our evil nature, that God sent his son from Heaven, to give us hope. My definition of hope is “a positive anticipation of God's promise.” It is this hope that gives us a reason to live, a reason to move forward, and the strength to overcome these temptations. Furthermore, it is His death, burial, and resurrection that gives us hope of His saving grace. However, although hope is inexhaustible, temptation is inevitable, therefore the Gospel according to Matthew 26:41 states: “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (King James Version). What is temptation? Temptation is a vigorous compulsion or desire to do something. It is a form of incentive, which very often leads to unscrupulous or nefarious behavior. According to (“Biblical Teachings Concerning Man,” n.d., paragraph 1) temptation is defined as “a state experienced when a person thinks, considers… middle of paper… ess. The hope of a better life and eternal happiness gives us the reason to move forward. However, although hope is inexhaustible, temptation is inevitable, therefore the Gospel according to Matthew 26:41 states: “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (King James Version).
