Americans love risk and invention is honorable. Thus, while the Japanese shy away from venturing into new and risky procedures, the Americans seek glory through creativity and invention. For this reason, Japan has lagged behind in the services sector, a sector that finances a considerably large percentage of the US economy. But again, ten Japanese are hard workers and learn quickly because they are good listeners. Furthermore, in verbal communication, the Japanese respect the feelings of their interlocutor and maintain harmony by being indirect. Basically, Japanese people often interrogate the other party using blunt questions to understand them before engaging in communication. Raising one's voice is considered taboo (Brightman, 2005). Americans apply exactly the opposite, they express their opinion with minimal consideration of the other party's reaction. Literally, Americans express their emotions while conversing, through nonverbal signs or by changing voice tones, including but not limited to raising their voices. The code of nonverbal respect of bowing, standing, and sitting to honor others, evident in Japanese culture, has no place in American culture.
