Holland's theory has four premises that attempt to explain the person/job relationship.1. Most individual personalities can be classified into 6 main types; realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising or conventional. Furthermore, these personalities are organized into a scheme that describes the individual.2. There are six types of work environments that coincide with the personality types mentioned above.3. Individuals seek work environments that are best suited to their personality type and pattern.4. In turn, a career that matches the individual's type has a more positive outcome than one that does not. One of the great aspects of Holland's theory is that individuals whose personality patterns and work environment are congruent will have a better career outlook and success.
