Religion is something that people all over the world have fought wars for. Be it Judaism, Christianity, or many other different religions. Many people have fought and died for their religion as it gives them something to believe in beyond the world we know and live in. For Italy this is Christianity as 88% of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic Church, although only about a third. of these people consider themselves "active" in their religion ("Religion in Italy: A Christian Country"). Even if such a high percentage of the population is Christian, this does not mean that other religions are not relevant in Italy. In fact, there are approximately one million Muslims, seven hundred thousand Eastern Orthodox Christians, five hundred and fifty thousand evangelical Protestants, two hundred and thirty-five thousand Jehovah's Witnesses, forty-five thousand Jews and many other minor religions ("Religion in Italy: a country of Christianity"). Despite the vast majority of people who practice Christianity in Italy, all these religions thrive. Above all, however, the Italian Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, apart from the extreme sects ("Religion in Italy: a most important building for religion"). Italy is the Vatican. The Vatican is the seat of government of the Roman Catholic Church as well as the seat of the Pope who is the spiritual leader of the church (“Religion in Italy: a Christian country”). radio and television ("Religion in Italy: a Christian country"). Of all the major countries in the world, Italy may have the closest relationship between church and state.
