“Fashion is not necessarily about labels. It's not a question of brands. It's about something else that comes from inside you” -Ralph Lauren (“Glamour” 1). Fashion designers are artists working in clothing retail and other wholesale or manufacturing establishments, who create and design original clothing with their artistic skills. These designers need a great deal of skills, such as active listening, critical thinking, active learning, coordination and decision making, social perceptiveness, and speaking skills to pursue a career in fashion design ( “Careeronestop” 2). The skills needed to become a designer are also extremely important to possess when designing clothing and other accessories. However, there are some drawbacks to owning a career in fashion design, for many time-related reasons. A career in fashion design is very beneficial to someone who is gifted with creativity and has an eye for design and color schemes, and although this career may require long hours and hard work, it certainly pays off. Fashion designer training is extremely important to have when you want to be successful in this specific career. The initial level of education to become a fashion designer is a bachelor's degree. Fashion designers require a degree in fine arts, fashion design or fashion merchandising (“Fashion Designers” 1). “In fashion design, employers usually look for people with a two- to four-year college degree who are knowledgeable about fabrics, fabrics, ornaments, and fashion trends” (“Occupational Profile for Fashion Designers” 2). Employers in this career look for previous work experience when hiring. “These occupations require prior work-related skills, knowledge or experience.” Working in retail and manufacturing with... half the paper in hand, the long hours will come in handy at the end of the day. The average pay for stylists is sixty-two thousand eight hundred and sixty dollars per year in the United States. In addition to the profit, all the artistic skills put into the career come back into the product. It's all the talent put into the clothing and it shows when the product is completed. There may be some downsides, but the work you put in definitely shows at the end of the day. In conclusion, fashion design is a very demanding career, with long hours and many skills, abilities and knowledge needed to be successful. While this may be true, fashion designers change the world, they create new trends, new ideas but, above all, new ways of thinking. Fashion designing is very beneficial for those who are creative and have an eye for design and color combinations.
