The rapid growth of technology in our society has become more dominant than it was in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, technology is used for almost everything in our daily lives. But the most common use of technology is for communication and industrialization. However, every good thing has its downside if it is used excessively, and as technology has become very dominant, it is used by both young and old people, but it is more predominant among today's youth. Even more, technology has led to the birth of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, my space, piazza.com, instagram, tango and, last but not least, SMS. According to socialnetworking.procon.org, "47 percent of American adults used social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in 2011, up from 26 percent in 2008. [26] on social media sites like these, users can develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, connections, and more” (procon.org. 1). , have we really thought about how these sites are discouraging some students from spending less time with their books, how young adults are losing their marriages, the indecent behavior they are promoting, and how texting and driving has increased in our society? Of course not! For starters, many of us might agree that social networking sites are a major source of news for some Americans who prefer to subscribe to online newspapers, Yahoo news, and many others. As a result, many students who use social networks use the Internet for so many things, from homework to research papers. Of course, it is an undeniable fact that... middle of paper... has increased the divorce rate among young adult marriages and promotes indecent behavior. Again, 28% of car accidents are caused by social networking site users texting and driving. So, without reservation, social networking sites are gradually taking control of many aspects of our lives in an increasingly negative way and, if not addressed soon, will become a major concern for our society.Works CitedProCon.org. “Are social networking sites useful to our society?” ProCon.org.
