Once people reach their early eighties, the priority and drive towards sex decreases. In one study, widowed women were asked questions about their sex lives, and some women in their 60s and 70s no longer considered sex important because they didn't want to have sex with anyone else. It was not necessarily their age that made them not want to have intimate sexual intercourse, rather they did not want to start a new sexual relationship (Gott and Hinchliff 2003). Some women remember their younger lives and realize how much life can sweeten as they continue to age. Often people have something psychological that prevents them from being frequently sexually active. Insecurity, anxiety and stress are all factors that affect how people behave sexually. As we age, interest may wane, which causes couples to rarely engage in sexual behavior. Studies conducted on the interview style show how the desire to have sex decreases over time.
