In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby goes through a mental phase that drives him completely crazy. He's not the only character to go through this phase. Most of the main characters went through it and ended up hurting each other. This made everyone go through a mental journey. Nick Carraway stood on the sidelines when he felt drama was coming. This prevented him from losing his sanity and allowed him to witness others going mad. Gatsby was one of many that Nick had seen go through a mental phase. It all started when Gatsby met Daisy. That's where everything went wrong for Gatsby, when he fell in with the wrong group of people. Everything could have been better if Gatsby had stayed away from Daisy. Daisy already had a husband, Tom Buchanan. Gatsby should have stayed away from a married woman and Daisy should have stayed away from having an affair with Gatsby.
