As we mentioned in the conference, Hollywood is a reflection of the same Franklinian ideas. Therefore, many Hollywood films contain Franklin's ideas about self-help, self-education and so on. However, one of the most important things is how Hollywood wants the world to identify America and its people through these films. In this essay I focus on “The Social Network,” the film about the rise of Facebook and its president Mark Zuckeberg. The essay offers readers ideas on how Hollywood identifies Facebook and its founders. All these ideas also show the relationship between the film and Franklin's view on identification and its thirteen virtues. First, we should consider the context of the film. The film talks about the rise of Facebook and can be considered the documentary of the world's largest social network. However, the film is not shown as the documentary should be. It focuses on the two lawsuits. The first is between Mark and Eduardo Saverin, the co-founder of Facebook. The second concerns the intellectual thief, with Mark accused by the Winklevoss brothers. Because of these lawsuits, brothers Mark, Eduardo and Winklevoss must tell the entire story of Facebook from the beginning. As a result, Hollywood wants to portray Facebook as a very complicated case, where Mark had to defend himself and his company from his enemies and even his best friend. This is the way of identification that Franklin learned in the past. The content is not as important as the way and perspective you choose to represent the story. Therefore, by choosing lawsuits to tell the story, Hollywood has tried to identify the business world as an extremely harsh world where best friends can… middle of paper… To conclude, the essay gives you the ideas about how Hollywood uses their medium to identify a real character and influence the audience. They are also strongly linked to Benjamin Franklin in terms of expressing his idea to the world. “The Social Network” is a very interesting product of Hollywood, which contains not only historical data about the foundation of Facebook but also to represent the idea of Franklin unintentionally influencing the most important figures of modern social media, Mark Zuckeberg and co- founder Eduardo Saverin. Furthermore, it also shows us how the Internet and its community changes the way of identifying with the change of support tools.Works CitedCase, A. (2011). We are all cyborgs now. TED talks. 2011.
