Period 210-12 Final exam“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice that says at the end of the day, 'I'll try again tomorrow.'” – Mary Anne Rudmacher This is a great quote and it really speaks truth. When Mary Anne Rudmacher says that "courage does not always roar," she means that true courage does not depend on who can talk the biggest or who has the biggest ego. This isn't courage, it's showboating before the fact. His second sentence goes on to say "courage is the quiet voice that says at the end of the day, 'I'll try again tomorrow,'" meaning that courage is the fact that when someone fails, they don't go home with their tails in their hands. legs, but they keep their heads high and try again, despite having failed the first time. This process of trying, failing, and trying again is a process I know all too well. When I started wrestling at the high school level, I thought I was invincible. I had fought in Modified the year before and had finished the year strong, without losing a single point. I was quite arrogant. I found out that because of my size, I was the only heavyweight our team had to field. Almost immediately I understood the difference between Modified and Varsity. I was tossed around like a rag doll. All my opponents were lean, muscular and tough as nails. I also ran into an opponent who was bald. I lost again and again, and again, and again. Where I had done so well in eighth grade, I had done poorly in freshman year. Sure, there have been some wins and some highs, but there have been many more lows. But despite this seemingly never-ending pattern of one loss after another, I not only stayed for the rest of the year, but I returned to wrestle the following year… middle of the card… ge. After nearly dying from the swarms, Jack returns that same day more determined than ever to destroy those things. If courage is truly what Mary Anne Rudmacher says it is, then I know such courage all too well. The characters in each of my books also exemplify courage. Rick Deckard set an example of courage by doing something that completely went against his ideals and that he really didn't want to do. Jack set an example of courage by trying to take down the rogue swarms even though he nearly died in the attempt on more than one occasion. The best example of all was Helena, who ruthlessly pursued Demetrius even though he despised her so much. Every time it was closed, it came back swinging. People don't necessarily need to be proud to be courageous. They just need to find the strength in themselves to get back on their feet and try again later.
