Although video games in North America have recovered from the North American Video Game Crash of 1983, a massive recession in the video game industry that ended in 1985, some don't know much about video games. One important thing to know about video games is the amount of genres available. When you buy a video game you have seven genres to choose from; action, action-adventure, adventure, role-playing, simulation, strategy and sports. If you want to test your reflexes, action games might be the genre for you. An action game is a genre that focuses on physical challenges such as hand-eye coordination and reaction time. It has a huge amount of sub-genres such as shooting games, fighting games, and platform games, which are commonly believed to be the most prominent action games. In an action game, players normally control one character. The player must guide his character through a level, collecting important items, avoiding obstacles, and fighting enemies with multiple forms of attack. An easily recognizable action game series is known as Devil May Cry or commonly called DMC. If action games aren't the genre for you, perhaps action-adventure games are more your style. Action-adventure games are games that combine elements of the action game genre with elements of the adventure game genre. Action-adventure games mainly focus on making the player use both his reflexes and problem-solving skills while playing the game. The story relies heavily on player-based character movement, which triggers story events. The Legend of Zelda, God of War, and Tomb Raider are great examples of action-adventure games. If you like solving puzzles, adventure games might be more your style. Typically, an ad...... middle of paper......ames, sports games might interest you. Sports games are games that simulate the practice of traditional sports such as baseball, soccer, football, rugby and basketball. Sports games can focus on hands-on playing sports, like the Madden NFL series, or focus on strategy and organization like NFL Head Coach. Some sports games use the names and characteristics of real players and their teams and are updated annually to reflect changes occurring in the real world. Players expect sports games to have realistic graphics scale and accurate athletic features. When thinking about video games, you need to keep in mind that there are many different genres available to you. Don't assume that all video games are the same as there are 7 genres: action, action-adventure, adventure, role-playing, simulation, strategy and sports.
