The industrial revolution, which began at the end of the 18th century, had a significant urbanizing effect. Industrialization is the fundamental driving force of urbanization, and urbanization, cities, are the important territory for industrialization. Industrialization and urbanization are just like brothers who grow and develop together and develop each other (Lexicon Universal Encyclopedia, 1997). Industrialization is the initiator of urbanization and urbanization is the inevitable result of industrialization. The inventions of railroad tracks, automobiles, telephones, airplanes, and electricity are part of the industrialization and growth of cities, urbanization, during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Urbanization occurs naturally through individual and corporate efforts to reduce travel and transportation time and costs, while improving employment, education, housing and transportation opportunities. Living in cities allows individuals and families to take advantage of the opportunities offered by proximity, diversity and market competition. People began moving to cities to seek economic opportunities. In rural areas, often on small family farms, it is difficult to improve one's standard of living beyond basic necessities. Life on the farm depends on unpredictable environmental conditions, and in times of drought, flood or plague, survival becomes extremely problematic. Cities, by contrast, are known to be places where money, services and wealth are centralized. Cities are where fortunes are made and where social mobility is possible. Businesses that produce labor and capital are usually located in urban areas. Tourism and trade in cities are the main source of foreign money in a country. With excellent inventions such as the telephone, railways and steel it contributed to the urbanization process. Without such inventions the process of industrialization and urbanization would have been impossible. Industrialization and urbanization go hand in hand and need each other to occur.
