Topic > What is the American Dream - 1072

Society believes you need money to be happy and economic stature to be accepted. Society is divided into different levels called social classes. Social class describes a group of people with similar levels of wealth, power, and prestige. The principle holds that those who move forward do so on the basis of their own merit. This principle refers to a social system in which individuals advance and earn rewards directly proportional to their individual efforts and abilities. This system no longer works due to the different social class. Some people earn more money than others. Inequality is among us. There are so many people unemployed and others just surviving. Of course those at the top, the rich, are good. They are good economically. In this world, not everyone has the privilege or opportunity to advance in social mobility. The economy continues to grow, we are producing more and more, but the problem today is that the vast middle class does not have the purchasing power to keep the economy strong. Middle class incomes have remained the same or even fallen since the 1970s. In recent decades, most of the middle classes do not earn enough money. Although Americans are optimistic about class mobility, New York Times studies show that the ability to move from one class to another has not increased over the past thirty years (Class 2). They just earn money to survive, put food on the table and pay the bills. The middle class has lost faith in the American dream because they have to work to survive, but sometimes that's not enough. What we are doing is not enough to achieve the American dream. The increase on everything makes everything more and more difficult. The middle classes are getting nowhere. They stay in the same place because of inequality and the high prices of everything there
