Topic > A Hero: Peeta's Hero as a Hero - 752

According to Joseph Campbell, "A hero is someone who has given his life to something greater than himself." Everyone imagines heroes differently. Heroes don't always have to have supernatural abilities. They can just be regular people making a difference in someone's life. Peeta, from the Hunger Games trilogy, is a hero in his own way. Peeta was just a normal young man until he was forced to enter the arena and fight to the death on live television. Peeta didn't know what effect it would have. Peeta gave people hope and faith. Peeta didn't try to become a hero, but the choices he made are what led him to be known as a hero. Peeta was born and raised in District 12, specializing in mining. Peeta was the son of a baker. Peeta was stocky and of medium height. When Peeta was a child, he saw Katniss Everdeen for the first time at school. He immediately had a crush on her. Peeta had many different abilities. Thehungergames.wikia.com states that Peeta has five main skills: cooking, painting, speaking, camouflage, and strength. Since Peeta was the son of a baker, he really enjoyed cooking. That's where his painting skills came from. Peeta helped his parents decorate cakes and other desserts. Peeta also had great speaking skills. He always managed to make people like him and make them feel at ease. He was good at using the nature around him to camouflage himself. Once in the arena, he painted himself to camouflage himself with some leaves so that no one around would see him. Peeta, who placed 2nd in a District 12 wrestling match, thrived working in the bakery with his parents. From this article you can see that Peeta has many different abilities. Peeta took all of his abilities and used them to protect... middle of paper... in the woods. Rue was stabbed in the stomach. When Peeta and Katniss arrived in District 11, Peeta gave a speech to Rue's family and then offered her family a portion of his earnings each year. It was something that had never been done before. She felt the need to give them the money because she was too young to be dead but also because she was Katniss' ally. Everything Peeta did was for Katniss. According to Kendra Cherry, “people who rush to help others in the face of danger and adversity do so because they genuinely care about the safety and well-being of other people” (2). Peeta could always see the bigger picture. Peeta knew that Katniss could make a difference and bring down the Capitol. He was willing to do anything for Katniss, including dying for her. He never compromised who he was in the games. Heroes are people who act with dignity under pressure.
