"Failure to anticipate, prevent, and ameliorate global health problems would diminish America's stature in health and jeopardize our health, economy, and national security "said from the Institute of Medicine. Global health refers to health phenomena that transcend national borders. For example, global health should address difficult situations such as: infectious and insect-borne diseases that can spread from one country to another. Therefore, global health should be addressed through collaborative actions and solutions. On the other hand, countries tend to focus on other essential issues occurring in the present day and, therefore, neglect the global health issue. Some issues that countries focus on are the environment, education, and the economy. According to the National Post, the Dominion Institute conducted a survey of young Canadians in 2008 to determine what issues are most important. The results for the issues most relevant to young Canadians were 27% for the environment, 25% for education, 17% for the economy and 15% for health. Overall, global health has been a debated topic as to the level of importance it should have within a country. Global health should be a big concern for Canadians or any other country. There are several reasons why countries should address the global health problem. One approach to designating global health as an important issue is to bring it into the perspective of the philanthropist. According to UNAIDS statistics, there were two million deaths due to AIDS in 2008 and the number is still growing. (Worldwide HIV & AIDS Statistics, 2009) Furthermore, more than three million people… halfway across the world… would be affected. This financial crisis and economic recession has affected Canada with GDP growth, employment growth and productivity growth. GDP and employment growth were declining, and productivity growth had declined. (Economic Overview, 2009) The downturn in the Canadian economy has caused job losses and financial burdens for Canadian people. Therefore, due to the recession, one should focus on the issue of the economy. Governments must establish plans and implement them to support our In conclusion; the prospect of solving problems occurring in the current country and then focusing on the problems of other countries means that global health should not be of much concern to Canadians. Ultimately, making global health an important issue for Canadians is still up for debate.
