PortfolioAs a child, my lifelong dream was to become a nurse. While distractions may have caused a delay along the way, redirection ultimately corrected the path to realizing this dream, which was a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ASN), nearly twelve years ago. At the time, this was an acceptable goal, however, with the healthcare industry constantly evolving, I was wrong. Education, not only in life, but in the nursing field is ongoing and necessary to keep up with these changes. While searching for articles for research papers while attending Jacksonville University (JU), I came across this quote: Let us never consider ourselves finished nurses...we must be lifelong learners - Florence Nightingale. So, while attending JU, I adopted this as my motto: I learned so much during my time at JU. By creating this portfolio and completing JU's course objectives, I have realized that I am not only completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, but I am beginning a never-ending journey into the nursing profession that will ultimately allow me to continue to provide efficient and effective services. safe, quality care for patients, becoming a leader and mentor to other nurses using evidence-based research and technology. Synthesize knowledge of liberal arts and sciences and nursing science to understand global perspectives, stimulate critical thinking, and utilize current technologies In preparing research associated with global health concerns (Appendix A), issues came to mind which may be oceans away, but which still need to be addressed because in the long run there will be some kind of effect on our country. Diseases, nutritional deficits, together with the environmental problems that affect these third world countries and more...... at the center of the paper ......we decide what is best for the patient we, as nurses, must ensure that the Our patients understand the importance of the treatment plan that has been determined best for them. So let's become good negotiators. We explain to them what their current needs are, as well as providing explanations about potential diagnostic tests or treatments, answering any questions, while we negotiate when, where and how the patient would like the treatment to be administered. Ultimately, effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation with team members and the patient will improve patient outcomes. During the BSN program, I worked on several group projects (Appendices D and D1), which require effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation among classmates. Working together on all of these projects reinforced the need for these three skills to prepare successful presentations.
