In the article “Being an Atheist”, HJ McCloskey tries to demonstrate that believing in God is unreasonable. McCloskey first tries to highlight the flaws of theism by trying to refute cosmological and teleological arguments. After attempting to show the flaws of the two arguments, he raises the problem of evil to try to discredit theism as a contradictory belief. At the end of his article he tries to show his readers that atheism is comforting and that theism is not. When you examine McCloskey's argument you notice many flaws in his reasoning as he wanted to prove that it is impossible for a God to exist. Throughout the article McCloskey refers to the fact that there is no evidence for the existence of God, therefore it should not be used. The problem with this is that atheists and theists should eliminate most of their arguments for the reason that almost everything doesn't prove the argument. McCloskey is right that the “evidence” does not completely establish that there is a God, but it does give us a better understanding of the world and whether there is a God. Cosmological and teleological arguments are just arguments, so they do not completely prove that there is a God, as Dr. Foreman says, "that these arguments give us the best explanation" (Foreman). McCloskey is wrong to say that the arguments should be abandoned because, even if they do not completely prove the existence of God, they are “starting blocks” that need to be better refined to create a more complete argument for a God. the God of Christianity. If you were to abandon these arguments that don't fully demonstrate what they are trying to do, you would have abandoned many other power-ups such as evolution. There must be a necessary... means of paper...' In the article of which he wants very much to disprove the existence of God, he makes many errors in his arguments. McCloskey fails to prove his points against the cosmological argument, the teleological argument, and the problem of evil because he could not present strong enough arguments against them. In the end, all it proves is that theism is stronger than he had thought. It is amazing how God created such a universe that we may never know the full complexity of His universe.
