Benton was frustrated and dissatisfied with her job at Houseworld, where she started with a lack of accountability and poor relationships with her boss, Linton, and a coworker, Scoville. With the revelation of her unpromising performance evaluation, Benton was worried about her career at Houseworld and was considering calling her former supervisor, Kingston, of Right-Aways Stores, to whom she had previously turned down a tempting offer. there are three main relationships, with Linton, Scoville, and Vernon, that have shaped Benton's current circumstances. If Benton had approached them in different ways, the outcome might have been different. Relationship to Linton Due to Home Care Division policy, the recruiting practice has emphasized recruiting MBAs from top-rated schools for entry-level marketing positions. This decision makes it difficult for Linton and Scoville to promote themselves and furthers their negative attitude towards MBAs. Unfortunately, this had made it difficult for Benton to make a good impression on Linton. Unlike the previous friendly and enthusiastic reception in his interview, Benton received opposing responses that did not meet his emotional needs and reduced his motivation in his department. Due to his dislike of Benton, Linton seemed to purposely ignore Benton's ability and did not assign challenging tasks to Benton. Linton ultimately disappointed Benton by assuming that Benton's task maturity was low and blocked his development of his expert power. However, Benton did a great job during his full-time internship at Right-Away, he had skilled job skills to build on his experience. But she failed to do so due to her intimidating conversations with Linton and Scoville. Benton chose to remain silent when given the opportunity to speak. In addition to blocking Benton from his development, Linton also refused to communicate with Benton and failed to address the issues between Benton and Scoville. When Benton complained about Scoville to her, she always said that Scoville is nice and that she has no problem with him. Although Linton promised to assign them separate projects more than once, she still did not commit to addressing their problems. There were several times when Benton had questions, but Linton refused to answer them immediately. Thinking and being advised that she was in a learning process, Benton did not express her opinions during division meetings. This behavior caused his boss, Linton, to think that Benton lacked confidence and strong work skills. Benton should have expressed his intelligent opinions and analysis at every possible opportunity.
