" One paper certificate won't solve everything, but it's a great place to start. No law will change us, we have to change ourselves." . (Macklemore line 61) Change, it's something that has to come to us, it's something we have to work on. Changing in one day is not possible, it takes time, a lot of time. Ben Haggerty or otherwise known as Macklemore is a critically acclaimed singer-songwriter. He wrote a song called "Same love", a gay pride song about marriage and equality for gays and lesbians. He writes about all the difficulties they face in choosing their lifestyle. Theodore Olson, a writer for the Newsweekly, writes about homosexual equality and their marriage rights, Evan Wolfson talks about how to get more states to join same-sex marriage, and finally our amendments which talk about the equal rights we have as human beings and what protects us from the government. Experts like Theodore Olson say “we will always be divided” until we change. We are taking away human beings' natural rights. How can we continue to grow, when that has been holding us back/supporting us? This is where things start to get really interesting. Our population has the vote, the vote to legalize it or throw it out the window. They choose whether or not to approve a bill or proposal. It's all at hand, in their hands. We live in a new era, a new generation, full of changes. We were on our way to big changes, especially those having to do with homosexuality. Over the years we have become more accepting of them, even if we don't like their lifestyle we still tolerate them, most of the time. Same-sex couples have been trying to pass a law that would allow same-sex couples from... middle of paper... we've grown a lot. We have come a long way; no doubt we just need that little push to push us over the edge and be able to finally legalize something that should never have been illegal. Consequently, the three reasons I listed above demonstrate why we must change and why we must become. The time has come for us all to come together to become an even greater nation.
