Topic > Influencing Public Policy for Good (Not for Evil) - 1703

I'm not at all interested in helping companies advance their causes; most companies don't care about people and are only too happy to screw them over for a profit. I would tell these fast food businesses to change; raise their employees' wages to a living wage, allow employees to unionize, and display nutritional information on their menus. I don't think we should go so far as to ban unhealthy fast food, but these companies selling questionable products should inform the public exactly what they are selling. If they use genetically modified foods, consumers have the right to know. Consumers have the right to know exactly what they are buying. Now, whether consumers choose to purchase the unhealthy product after receiving the appropriate information is up to each individual. However, consumers can no longer pretend to be ignorant in their consumption choices if they have adequate information available. This is just my personal opinion, probably not one I would espouse if I were truly interested in being hired by fast food companies. That said, I don't imagine I would ever support such companies, I would probably help the side trying to enact the laws; raise the minimum wage, promote unions and advocate for nutritional information to be prominently displayed in restaurants. I would be more inclined to pressure multinational fast food companies to change their stance on minimum wage, unions, and food labeling requirements than to try to promote their positions. That said, since this is just a school assignment and no lobbying is being done, I will sell my soul to the devil and defend the fast food corporations. Of...... middle of paper......
