Out of Africa focuses on the life of the narrator and main character, Karen Blixen, who faces many problems shortly after arriving in Africa. She arranged a marriage of convenience with Baron Bror Von Blixen, her second cousin. Karen quickly finds it difficult to maintain her marriage to him, as things turn out unexpectedly. Bror's announcement of the coffee plantation angers Karen. It is later revealed that Bror is also incapable of managing the farm, being completely unreliable with money. His infidelity and lack of presence towards Karen, as well as his financial irresponsibility, cause damage to their marriage. The film shows the difficulties that the main character faces in his marriage. Marriage seems to be the main bridge that connects Karen and Bror together. This connection is damaged, however, when Bror's intentions are revealed; his decision to create a coffee plantation instead of the dairy that Karen wants, and his poor financial responsibilities will later cause difficulties for the plantation, which Karen ends up managing alone.
