Topic > Effects of dropping out of high school - 1337

There are numerous reasons why students decide to drop out of school, such as: lack of support from parents, family or economic needs, being expelled, which it basically happens when a student is pressured into dropping out, the student fades out, which is when a student who is doing well in school stops caring or stops feeling that school is important and eventually stops caring and drops out. All these causes have one important thing in common; stress, a student's stress level is what makes or breaks their school career. When students feel stressed, they try to find a way to relieve it, and while there are several alternatives, many students turn to drugs like marijuana. This becomes an extremely difficult habit to break. “Marijuana use has multiple effects on the user. Imaging studies of human adolescents show that regular marijuana users exhibit impaired neural connectivity in specific brain regions involved in a wide range of executive functions such as memory, learning, and impulse control compared to non-users. (NIH) Due to the negative effects of drug use, students tend to have difficulty concentrating in school or on school work, potentially resulting in them completely losing interest in school.” (NIH) When this happens, it's like a domino effect that only gets worse over time. This then leads to increasingly poor decisions such as long-term substance abuse and/or relationship breakdown
