Topic > The Role of Women in the Mother's Revolt - 1060

This captive woman opens her eyes when her husband tries to build a barn as he was promised over 40 years ago. She begins to say, “I will speak to you very clearly; I have never done it since I married you, but I will do it now” (pra.77). For a long time, this woman remained speechless, indecisive and voiceless in her own home; however, because of this burn problem, she feels not like an imprisoned second citizen, but like an owner who is able to decide to say "true plain" which can be a fundamental and natural right of a human being. Furthermore, he states that “'unsolicited opportunities are the Lord's indications towards the new path of life'” (par. 114). She defines her leading role against the tradition that keeps her secondary and the imprisonment of her husband and culture as a "new path of life". She breaks out of the cage and makes the decision to move forward while her husband is out of town. She goes from the “old house” where she lived to the “new fire” that begins her new life. Also, she may forget old events, but it is a good start on par with her husband. Furthermore, Mrs. Penn's caging occurs not only because of her husband, but also because of his church/tradition. This is highlighted with the old man's visit from his church; however, the clergyman's visit failed to keep her from her new life path towards liberation
