Topic > Summary of Odysseus - 1031

Odysseus may be a strong leader and a great family man, yet he still only worships false pagan gods. As it says in Exodus 20:4-6, “Do not make to yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or of anything that is in the earth below, or of anything that is in the water under the sea.” Earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments." This verse tells us that we should never worship anything above God, which is Odysseus' mistake. This is a great example that there is no way to get to heaven except through Jesus, because by your own works, it doesn't matter what you are condemned to.
