Misunderstanding The Day We Were Dogs Writers as well as many people create or mislabel stories. Magical, unreal, real, fantastic, and sublime are just some of the different types of labels a person can use. The different types of stories are fun and entertaining. The world is made up of all kinds of different labels of story material that people like to read and enjoy. Elana Garro is one of the Spanish authors who wrote stories that were mislabeled and lumped together with other stories classified under the magical and unreal category. The story "The Day We Were Dogs" is one of the stories that was out of place. Elana Garro wrote this story in 1993. The magical and unreal in this story could be easily identified; during the first part of the story, the girls woke up to find a day with two days inside the day. Now, either this situation is unreal or it's crazy. A person can think about a day and then think about the present, or he can think about the future and be in the present. The thought of being together two days in the same day is ridiculous; even the idea that this statement is real is ridiculous. The real aspect of this story is that the children pretend to be dogs. Children have wild and creative imaginations. The story has two children in the yard with their dog, Toni. While in the yard, the children talk to the dog and talk to each other. "You look for your dog's name, I look for mine. Am I a dog? Yes, they were dogs" (208). Children can actually play and really think about living in their pretend world. They may actually believe that they are truly living out their imagination. People who actually read the stories question the plot and story as the story progresses. The characters in the story accept everything; however, they are faking it. Asking and receiving ideas about time and space with character identity worked well with the characters in the story. Through the experience of being a reader, this person can verify that looking for a plot and the plot is very important. The attitude of the characters in the story "One Day We Were Dogs" was fine. The way the characters behaved throughout the story was like real children playing with the dog.
