As you can see, as time goes on the films are more direct in how they depict gender roles in relation to AI films. While in Videodrome it wasn't as obvious, in EVE of Destruction it's very evident how they view women and simply see them as sexual objects regardless of what they take part in. Moving forward in time, Ex Machina first aired in 2015 during a time of reform and progress. In the film we are introduced to Ava, a robot built by Nathan. Nathan is the CEO of Bluebook, a popular search engine. Amusingly enough, Nathan builds Ava using information he gets from those who use his website. Nathan decides to use his users' information because he wants to emulate his behavior like that of a human, so he uses everything his users search for as a way to determine human thinking and capture it within Ava. Using the breakthrough test, Caleb must determine whether Ava was able to manipulate him into thinking she wasn't an AI. However, after Caleb and Ava have been together for a while, she falls in love with him.
