Intercultural conflict can arise at any time in the workplace, and sometimes we don't even realize it has developed until it becomes a big problem with another worker or customer. Sometimes problems can be resolved simply by talking to each other, but other times mediation is necessary to reach a reasonable truce and understanding. Even if we speak the same language and follow the same religion there can be conflicts because we are all individuals with different thoughts and ideas. There are many issues that can contribute to intercultural conflict. When intercultural conflict occurs in a workplace, for example a different language spoken by a worker causes communication breakdown and conflict, it is difficult to resolve immediately unless an interpreter is used, in the long term the Learning different languages would be very beneficial. Difference of opinion when it comes to someone's idealisms or cultural norms is best resolved by talking about the differences so you can gain a better understanding of expectations as a culture and workers' thoughts and ideas. A worker's role or status in the workplace may create cultural conflict with other workers, and a worker's lower-level role may be looked down upon (Open Colleges, 2013, p. 47-49). A different religion can cause intercultural conflict in many ways and can lead to other areas of conflict in the workplace, such as invasion of personal space, for example a worker of Egyptian descent is used to a closer distance when conversing with a other person, but Australians tend to prefer more distance or space between each other when speaking and this may make the Australian uncomfortable or offend the Egyptian if they do not understand each other's cultural norms (Geldard and Geld. ..... middle of paper ..... .it hurts in the end. Having different cultures in the workplace is rewarding, enriching and can be very beneficial for everyone. Works Cited Geldard, D & Geldard, K, 2009.
