CyberbullyingCyberbullying is bullying someone on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Cyberbullying began with the advent of social media. Bullying often occurs among people who cannot control their emotions. They feel helpless and that is why they resort to cyberbullying. By resorting to cyberbullying, kids feel power over people, which makes them feel good about themselves. Most children who are victims of cyberbullying behave differently at school or at home and cause problems. Teens often resort to cyberbullying because they are trying to figure out who they are. Children are not taught how to control their frustrations at school and take it out on kids online, sometimes kids have done nothing to upset them. Cyberbullying is a form of abuse and must be stopped. Why should children go through all this? Kids deal with enough stress and drama during high school that they don't have to fear coming to school and having to come face to face with their bully. Children are afraid to admit they are being bullied because they fear being ridiculed for getting help. Over 50% of children have been victims of cyberbullying and less than 30% of all children will report it. Why is cyberbullying a problem? Most people will argue that cyberbullying is just due to kids being kids. What they don't know is that 1 in 10 children who are bullied will take their own life. Cyberbullying causes many problems for teenagers. The most common effect of cyberbullying is depression. It causes people to think less of themselves, causing low self-esteem. It can also lead to fights at school. Over 70% of kids who are bullied will keep it to themselves and it will eventually get to them and cause violent attacks. Falling behind in academic work is another common problem and… middle of paper… help. If the bullying is insulting, etc., you should contact an adult or teacher and let them know what is happening. If bullying threatens you, you should contact the police and report it. Try saving all of your cyberbully's messages so you have evidence to back you up. Treat cyberbullies like any other bully and they will lose their power. Be bigger than them, act as if their mean words and comments don't bother you. I can't stress enough the dangers of cyberbullying. Almost everyone is a victim of cyberbullying at some point in their life. Children need to learn to be mature about cyberbullying. Fighting back is not an option that gives the bully the satisfaction of knowing that what he said hurt you. Cyberbullying will only get worse as technology continues to increase. This is unacceptable, bullying is abuse and should be stopped.
