Topic > The Life of Atahualpa - 978

Atahualpa is believed to have been born in the year 1500, in Cajamarca, now known as Peru. His parents were Huayna Capac and Tocto Coca. Atahualpa was a respectful person, because from an early age he showed people that he was a very intelligent and courageous person. His father and Willac Umu who was the great priest of Sol died around the year 1525, Atahualpa's father handed over the red mascaypacha to Huáscar, who obtained the kingdom of Cuzco and to Atahualpa the kingdom of Quito. Initially there was peace between the two kings, but in the king of Huascar there were people who did not want it and Atahualpa expanded his kingdom, having great battles and great loss of life between those kingdoms. Huascar also wanted to expand his kingship. So he called his father's blood brothers in Cusco, with the excuse that Huayna Capac's mother was supposedly coming to Cusco. Atahualpa's loyal nobles told him that he should not go, because he might be killed, so Atahualpa sent delegates to represent him and of course they died with other people. Atahualpa was convinced by the Inca nobility of Quito and Tumibamba that he should fight against Huáscar. Thus a large army commanded by the generals Quisquis, Calcuchímac and Rumiñahui was prepared, and a ceremony was also held, to place it on a red mascaypacha, to recognize Atahualpa the new ruler of Tahuantinsuyo. At first Atahualpa suffered many defeats, but this did not stop him on his journey to Cusco at the head of his generals. The most important battle they had was that of Chontascaxas, where the inhabitants of Quito were taken prisoner by Sapa Inca. Thus the army of Atahualpa killed many families closest to Huascar, especially the descendants of Tupac Yupanqui who was the panaca Cápac Ay...... middle of paper ...... to be priest and guardian of his body, obtained the throne. He could not continue the negotiations like his brothers, because the viceroy Francisco Toledo wanted to put an end to the problems of Vilcabamba. Thus, Tupac Amaru, near the entrance to Vilcabamba, still in 1572 the Spanish army managed to enter, but Tupac Amaru escaped into the jungle, however he was captured and taken to Cusco. Here he was beheaded and his head was placed in a public place, so that the Indians could see that they were intimidating the Spaniards. Soon, some people returned to Spain and were presented with comments and questions such as: whether Pizarro had the legal right to invade Peru, take Atahualpa hostage, kill thousands of people and take their gold. So the excuse was that Atahualpa usurped the throne from his older brother Huáscar, but this was a false argument because age did not matter.
