Topic > The American Nursing Association represents registered nurses

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is an organization representing registered nurses (RNs) throughout the United States. It protects the public and also holds nurses accountable for the action and care they provide. For this discussion, I will explain the Nursing Social Policy Statement for the discipline of nursing, nursing practice, and social health. I will also identify an element of the statement that will help me change my professional behavior. I will also list the objectives and the steps that will be taken to achieve them. To me, the Nursing Social Policy Statement means that as nurses we are responsible for the care we provide to our clients. We must meet needs and provide safe, competent care. Nurses are held accountable for the care they provide to help protect the public. It is our duty as RNs to continue to learn and keep up to date with certain policies and procedures to provide high standards of practice. As nurses, we are expected to follow our scope of practice and practice only according to the skills through which we have been trained. This helps protect society from anyone acting outside their level of education. The Nursing Social Policy Statement aims for health care to prevent disease, provide awareness and education, and assist the public to treat and prevent disease. The American Nurses Association (2014), ensures that RNs provide high-quality care, encourage RNs' rights as professionals, initiate policies, and obtain congressional approval when the need arises (para. 3). Healthcare professionals are held responsible for reporting others who act outside their scope of practice to prevent any harm to others. I have held myself accountable as an RN, especially since I started school and learned new information. .....protect nurses and the public from harm. It helps nurses know their role as professionals and helps provide better quality care to the community. Help RNs improve professionally and seek improvements in every way possible. It has personally helped me become a more respectful caregiver towards my patients, seeing them as clients and as individuals. I have also become an RN and a better person for setting and setting goals for myself. Works CitedAmerican Nurses Association. (2014). Statement of intent.
