Communication Among Residents Addison residents are able to communicate with each other and stay up to date on what is happening in town through a monthly eNewsletter, social media (Twitter and Facebook ) and the local newspaper. Community Strengths and Citizen Perceptions of the City In speaking with residents in various locations, Addison demonstrated many strengths. There is a variety of affordable accommodation for all families; balance of housing types, with 58% of single-family houses, 9% of terraced houses and 34% of multi-family houses. The location is seen by many as a huge selling point. It is located just off 355 with easy access to both industrial and commercial areas. The village's services, aside from this winter season's snow removal, have proven to be a favorite among community members. There is immense diversity within the city with good local schools and universities. Overall Addison residents find it to be a good family oriented community with a strong and friendly community spirit. Current City Plans During a phone conversation with Joseph Block, the city's current improvement plans were discussed. Most of the Village's primary concerns are creating more single-family and multi-family homes for families and seniors. The vacant lot on Mill and Army Trail Roads is a favorite for creating these homes. A portion of the lot cannot be used due to flood zones, but the remaining area would be ideal for single-family senior housing. There is a 20-acre parcel located on Lombard Road that is currently used by schools, the park district, and recreational clubs as a park. The village hopes to develop a new residential area here or improve the community's open spaces... middle of paper... Addison has an overall crime rate of 21 per 1,000 residents, making the crime rate close to the average for all cities and towns of all sizes in America. Addison's crime rate is approximately 31% lower than other Illinois communities. The most frequent crime cases in 2012 were thefts and burglaries at around 85% and common traffic violations. There has been an alarming increase in crime and scams targeting seniors in Addison. People classified as "gypsies" attack the elderly through the use of "driveway scams, cash counterfeiting, and burglary, in which one person distracts homeowners while another sneaks in through the back door or from the front door and steals from home”, not much is being done in terms of education and awareness (Scams, 2014).
