Coming from Venezuela, a country that is going through a dictatorial regime that controls almost all the media, made me understand the importance of freedom of speech and media freedom. For this reason, I decided to pursue a major in broadcast journalism at Pennsylvania State University. By my second semester of school, I knew that I wanted to supplement my journalism degree with another major, a field that could, in the future, be my specialty topic for all of my stories. Economics has caught my attention since the first ECON course I attended; I noticed that this area of study was very broad and influential to most of the stories that made the news every day. I felt a strong interest in this topic also due to the harsh economic crisis that my native country was and is still going through. For these reasons, I decided to pursue a double major and in May 2013 I graduated with honors in broadcast journalism and a bachelor's degree in economics. Throughout my studies at Penn State, and even after graduation, I focused on building a career in the communications field. My first work experience was at Cadena Capriles, for their radio station in Caracas, Venezuela, as a part-time show producer. During the summer between my Junior and Senior years, I interned at BBC Worldwide Channels in Miami, Florida, where I worked for the marketing and communications department. After graduating from Penn State, I interned at Newlink Group, a public relations firm whose target audience was US Hispanics, and then landed a position as an account coordinator at Montgomery Communications, a firm geared towards travel public relations . All of these opportunities have helped me develop strong communication and social skills. These experiences have been enriching,...... center of paper......al. I wouldn't want to leave behind what drove me to embark on a professional path in communication, which is why in the future I would like to create and manage my own program. I would like this program to be news oriented, similar to the CNN en Español program, Cala. This show touches on current events and topics of interest to Latino audiences, but maintains a more casual tone. This dream is inspired by the same reason that drove me to specialize in broadcast journalism in the first place, my passion for free media. I would like to invest in creating a show that conveys unbiased information. My experience working in public relations, combined with the knowledge I could gain from Fordham's Master's in Media Management and the increased experience I plan to gain in the media industry after completing my master's, will provide me with the right tools to manage a channel.
